We are inspired by Michelle Kozin's Boston-based company Organic Weddings (www.organicweddings.com) and her newly published book Green Weddings. Her ideas for earth-friendly nuptials are a perfect fit for Brewery Gulch. Start by exploring Michelle's web site for suggestions and links to her sources. Then let us share our ideas on how to plan your own beautiful, green wedding. We can provide you with a list of local North Coast resources to help make planning an easy, pleasurable process with the goal of balancing ecology, style and tradition. Start your lives together by making a personal statement and, in turn, a difference in the world.
A sampler of ideas:
- Choose a green location that offers organic menus and practices recycling and other ecologically sound practices. BGI has met the standards established for organically grown foods by the California Organic Certified Farmers under the California Organic Foods Act of 1990).
- Use tree-free or recycled paper for your invitations.
- Select a wedding gown made from natural fibers.( Even Giorgio Armani had a hemp dress in his Spring Collection. See Michelle's site for fabulous silk/hemp wedding attire).
- Use a special one-of-a-kind bridal registry to encourage green gifts (see www.idofoundations.org).
- Opt for pesticide-free local flowers or arrangements of fruit and greenery for your tables.
- For favors give organic chocolate, small jars of local honey from the farmers' market, lavender wands or, perhaps, set table cards announcing donations to the bride and groom's favorite charity in the guests' names.
